The Software Guild, A Wiley Brand, Partners With D’Youville College To Offer Coding Badges

The U.S. Department of Labor Statistics estimates that employment for software developers will grow 17 percent by the year 2024. To meet this demand, The Software Guild, a Wiley brand today announced it will expand its existing partnership with D’Youville College (D’Youville) to provide a flexible, online coding program that meets the evolving needs of the college’s growing student population.

The Software Guild’s online Coding Badges program consists of four modules, students obtaining a badge for each: programming basics, object-oriented programming, server-side web development, and full-stack development. Aspiring developers can obtain all four badges in as little as 10 months or may choose to take brief breaks in between badges. The online training allows students the freedom to learn and collaborate with instructors and classmates from home, school or anywhere with internet access.

“This partnership aligns with our mission of providing workforce development programs and continuing education options in the 21st century,” said Lorrie Clemo, President of D’Youville. “This is another way we at D’Youville are looking at innovative programs that focus on developing lifelong learners.”

The Coding Badges program is offered in two of the top foundational languages used by Fortune 500 companies around the world, .NET/C# and Java. Industry-aligned instructors lead students in a hands-on, project-based format that allows learners to acquire real-world skills that they can apply immediately. Additionally, aspiring developers are individually matched with a mentor, giving them critical insight to help shape their career goals. Students who complete the Coding Badges program have access to The Software Guild’s alumni and employer network of more than 450 companies, including Hallmark, Humana and UPS.

“Software development and IT jobs are opening at such a rapid pace that they can no longer be considered the jobs of tomorrow; they are the jobs of today,” said Rachel McGalliard, Senior Vice President of Operations and General Manager of The Software Guild. “We’re thrilled to take our partnership with D’Youville to the next level by offering a powerful route for aspiring developers to learn code and quickly stack credentials that enhance employability in a rapidly changing workforce.”
