Charleston Southern University Weighs in on Learning House’s Distance Learning Efforts
Posted in TestimonialIn early 2006, Charleston Southern University (CSU) went in search of a comprehensive distance education provider. What they found was a partner in excellence and success.
As part of its mission, the Evening College at CSU intended to offer its students a chance to pursue a degree during the evening while maintaining other work or family responsibilities during the day. In addition, the Evening College sought to allow students to build upon past college credit or accredited training and apply these efforts toward a degree completion program. As student enrollment increased, the demand for new modes of instruction, particularly online education, became apparent. With these students’ interests in mind, Charleston Southern teamed up with Learning House, Inc., a premier eLearning services provider, to build a customized online campus housed under the Evening College.
“We worked with a total eLearning solutions company, Learning House, Inc., to develop and offer a degree completion program that was clear, effective and simple,” explains Dr. Stan Parker, Dean of the Evening College at Charleston Southern University. From its initial launch, the Evening College has been dedicated to adjusting, enhancing and building upon its program in correspondence with increasing student interest. Online instruction and distance education provide a level of convenience that Dr. Parker claims, “allows adult and online students to use the course content effectively and immediately.”
Learning House has been there every step of the way. “This has been a strategic accomplishment for us,” asserts Parker. The long process from vision to implementation was a confusing one at times; however, Learning House utilized its knowledge of distance education to design an effective method of approach. According to Parker, Learning House content specialists and staff “helped us look at who the online learner is, where the online learner is at in their academic pursuits, what is the lifestyle of the online learner we will serve, and what is the purpose for which they are learning.”
Each of these factors weighed into the program’s overall vision and, consequently, influenced what Parker referred to as “the design of our program, course content, and faculty training components.” Continually seeking consistency and quality, Parker is quite content with the finished product: “the result is a popular program that is meeting the adult student need and adding enrollments to the University.”
CSU’s Evening College launched its online campus in September of 2006, offering a Bachelor of Management Services. This online degree completion program is offered in an accelerated format, taking only 20 months to complete.
