This year brings the fulfillment of a 2008 company-wide resolution to The Learning House, Inc. — an overhaul and enhancement of instructor training opportunities for client schools.Training and assistance for faculty, staff and students of client schools have long been hallmarks of Learning House’s commitment to successful eLearning. When implementing online courses at an institution or an entirely virtual campus, Learning House provides thorough training sessions for those administering and leading the lessons. Instructors are prepared by Learning House eLearning specialists to best utilize their Learning Management System (LMS) and other course components that may be included in their classes, from online chat rooms to multimedia presentations.

Once used to bring distant parties together, webcams have been updated for a new type of application: proctoring online testing.

Online education — a field of ever-expanding technological innovation — is introducing webcams into the virtual classroom for the purpose of proctoring exams. While many online courses utilize written assignments to monitor a student’s progress, formal standardized testing remains an important gauge for instructors of many disciplines.  However, traveling to a testing facility may be virtually impossible for many students, especially if they live in remote areas or abroad.  How can institutions balance the trust involved with allowing students to take tests from home with the attractive flexibility of an online degree program?  Through webcam proctoring!

Teaching has gone through many transitions over the past 100 years; however, one of the most significant changes to have impacted education and training is the online course.  The medium is different, the delivery method is different, and the challenges and self-directed learning that takes place through the online platform is different.  Students’ access to professors comes through a variety of methods, and most of these methods do not involve direct face-to-face contact.

Only a few months have passed in 2008; however, this short period has brought many new beginnings for The Learning House, Inc. Learning House is excited to welcome several new clients to our online family, including Founders College (Virginia), Grace College (Indiana), Hiwassee College (Tennessee), Louisiana College  (Louisiana) and Midland Lutheran College (Nebraska).  Every client brings a unique vision to the table of how online education can benefit its goals and objectives.  In each case, we are proud to be a part of not only the client’s online initiative, but the institution’s overall academic mission. 

In addition, several clients have also signed on to expand their virtual campuses with additional course offerings, degree programs or certification programs. In order to express our appreciation, we would like to tell you a little more about each of these clients and their upcoming launches.
