People interested in taking Ministry Formation Program (MFP) classes at Brescia University but who live out of state or who cannot take courses on campus can begin their Ministry Formation Program training over the internet this fall, starting August 15, 2005 , according to Fr. Joe Merkt, Director of the Brescia’s Ministry Formation Program. Other people who are interested in adult religious education for their own spiritual growth or for helping them in their volunteer ministries in the parish or school, and who have a reference from their pastor affirming them as a parish member or volunteer parish minister may take advantage of Brescia University’s Online College and the low tuition rates for the ten courses offered.

“Knowing Christ and Making Him Known,” is the motto that greets visitors to the Hobe Sound Bible College website (www.hsbc.edu), immediately communicating the institution’s commitment to learning and to the sharing of that knowledge.

The college has previously made distance education available to its students because it is not uncommon for some Hobe Sound students to leave for ministry before finishing their degrees on campus. Those courses, though, were conducted in a “traditional correspondence format,” according to Dean of Adult Distributed Education, Dalbert Walker, and were not intended to provide a full degree.

Students with special learning considerations have long been served by distance education, through outreach to parents, teachers and to the students themselves. The Shelton School (www.shelton.org), founded in 1976 to serve all populations affected by learning differences, is a leader in the field of special education. This year the institution will add online abilities to its outreach department, formed with the purpose of sharing its valuable knowledge with the world.

Shelton’s first online course, developed by Learning House Inc. (www.learninghouse.com), will be in professional development for dyslexia and related disorders, a part of the accredited multisensory structured language course offered at the school.
