CLINTON, MS (December 31, 2007) – Online education is making it easier than ever to earn a nursing degree from Mississippi College (www.mc.edu). Mississippi College will launch a new set of online nursing courses in May 2008 as part of an RN-BSN completion program. The implementation of these new online courses is part of fulfilling Mississippi College’s mission to eliminate time conflicts experienced by nurses who are unable to take substantial time away from their jobs.  Online instruction “makes it more accessible,” remarks Mary Jean Padgett, Nursing School Dean at Mississippi College. “After all, nurses just can’t take off work.”

Due to a large number of students pursuing online degrees in higher education, distance learning programs and online colleges have become some of the fastest growing industries in the business world.  Numerous smaller colleges and universities have been able to pioneer online programs with great success.  Despite concerns over the loss of face-to-face interaction, these institutions have effectively recreated interactive and welcoming “college cultures” via the Internet.  Such ground-breaking programs speak to the dynamic opportunities provided by this contemporary form of education and, more importantly, offer unique benefits to students with various commitments outside of their education.

In Georgetown College’s first academic year, two students crossed the stage at graduation to claim their diplomas. More than 120 years later, 2,000 students now occupy Georgetown’s rural Kentucky campus.  Moreover, through distance education, Georgetown College has been able to extend its dream of expansion to new heights.

First impressions go a long way, but lasting impressions make all the difference. Marvin Seperson, EdD, a professor at Nova Southeastern University, has over forty years of experience in higher education and has participated at various levels in several distance education programs.  As a result, Seperson considers himself to be quite knowledgeable on the topic of higher education.
