Officials of American Heritage University are pleased to announce that a final seal of approval has been given to the university to offer online degree programs by the California State Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education.

The leader of the visitation team, Sheila Hawkins, said the enormous preparation school officials had put in place to ensure that premium standards on education in the state are maintained impressed her.

“Your preparation and operational facilities are way beyond the state requirements,” she told Professor Tony B.E. Ogiamien, who is also the CEO of American Heritage University.

Anderson College (www.ac.edu), a small Liberal Arts Institution in northwestern South Carolina, will celebrate an anniversary in January, as it reaches the one-year mark for its Criminal Justice Program. Only a few months after it launched, Anderson added to its newest offering by taking the program online.

The Growth in Online Students and Competition for Enrollments Recently, I wrote about how the market for online learning is expanding at a tremendous rate. In my article, “Will Enrollment in Online Programs Continue to Increase?,” I referenced Malcolm Gladwell’s “tipping point” theory in which he argues that small changes in attitudes and behaviors can lead to large changes in a market or in society as a whole (Gladwell, 2000). To make the case that the online learning market has indeed reached a tipping point, I also referenced the Sloan Foundation’s study which reported that the growth in online learning has exceeded expectations (Allen & Seaman, 2004). Any economist worth his or her salt will say that when a market expands, the competition to meet the demand will grow until the market becomes saturated. We do not believe the online learning market has become saturated yet; however the competition for students in online programs is already fierce.
