Introduction to the Bible (REL 101)

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the academic study of the Bible and is designed to sharpen the student's understandings of the historical context, literary structure, theological content, and influence of the Bible. This study will allow the student to realize the richness of the biblical narratives and the influence these narratives have had upon the cultural settings. Students will also be more equipped for the life-long process of assessing their own responses to the biblical world-view.

Religions of the World (REL 200)

The course provides the student with an overview and academic study of the major religions of the world. This survey will survey of the seven major religious systems of the world, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Particular focus will be paid to each religion’s origins and historical development; aspects of divinity; sacred texts and scriptures; sacred individuals; sacred places; sacred time; and ethical principles. Additional attention will be paid upon each religion’s influence upon society and state.

Teachings of Jesus (REL 300)

This course will survey the teachings of Jesus and the various quests for the historical Jesus. This lesson will provide an overview for the foundation of Roman Catholicism. Subsequently, an examination will continue to discover the Protestant denominations which arose from Roman Catholicism in western Europe and spread to North America. These denominations include Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostals, and other Holiness groups. This lesson will conclude with an introduction into Christian ethics with a summarization on the ethical Christian dilemmas pervading divorce and war.
