Medical Billing and Reimbursement (HCM 200)

Students are introduced to health insurance and reimbursement practices including the mechanics of submitting insurance claim forms (electronically and via paper) and current industry coding for medical office treatments and procedures. Students will become familiar with routine practices of medical billing, the industry of health insurance, legal issues, regulations, and the various methodologies used in reimbursement procedures.

Medical Coding I (HCM 101)

Students are given the foundation practices and procedures for ensuring accurate coding. In this course students will receive an introduction to medical coding and review the uses of medical coding in the healthcare environment. Distinctions will be made between the ICD-9-CM and CPT coding systems, and students will also be introduced to the HCPCS coding system.
